Hi guys,
I posted here recently on how I've just done a tax disclosure on one of these HMRC campaign thingies as, over the past few years, I've sometimes done bits of private teaching work alongside my full-time job and needed to disclose it and get my tax 'affairs' up to date. Yep. So, all cool but one thing I don't get is this petrol thing. Say, Ok, I travel 5 miles to and from a person's house to tutor them? Well, it's 45p a mile right... or is it? And can I account for both the to and from mileage??? Is it just 20% of that 45p (e.g. the rate of my income tax or is it). Also, if, say, two people I tutor live beside each other, do I simply add in the mileage to go from one property to the next or should I always set the mileage allowance from the business address (e.g. my home?!). I don't get it! It's hard and horrible!! I hope someone can help!
