I am aware that there is no requirement to place commercial deposits in a deposit scheme. I am lucky enough that my current landlord is well aware of my issues with the previous landlords and suggested placing my current damage deposit for land and stables in a protected account. However, my previous landlords just put it in their regular business account. If I win my small for deposit return, I've no idea if they can pay it back. Is there an industry "best practice" for what is done with commercial deposits? I know they are normally held as protection against unpaid rent, rather than damages.
