I am sure most on the forum will be aware of the Lakanal House and Shirley Towers fatal fires. These tragic and very sad incidents have had a major impact on housing providers and social landlords following the final inquest reports from the coroner and the fire services own investigations which make very interesting reading, the links to these reports are below.
I have given presentations recently at the North West Housing Federation Fire Safety Forum (free of charge) and the North West Housing Safety Group meeting, on a range of fire safety issues in the residential housing sector. We act as external fire safety auditors and advisors to several large and small housing associations and landlords. We have also assisted in writing and amending their fire safety policies in light of the recent Lakanal and Shirley Towers recommendations.
I am currently putting together a presentation on the above as I have been asked to speak at a meeting of the National Housing Federation (Central Area) and West Midlands Social Housing Fire Strategy Group. I am looking to provide similar presentations to housing associations and landlord groups around the outcomes of Lakanal House and Shirley Towers and the impact the recommendations will have. We are also offering free initial consultations and desk top exercises to assess and report on any housing organisations fire safety position and risk in light of the recommendations from Lakanal and Shirley Towers.
If you know of any housing or landlord groups or any interested parties that would be interested or if you wish to discuss any aspect further or require more details please contact me. We will also have a stand at the Landlord and Letting event at the Reebok Stadium Bolton on the 26th and 27th of June, it would be good to meet and chat to some forum members then.
