Application to Suspend Eviction Hearing

Hi all, I'm new here and after a bit of advice please.

We are evicting our tenants due to rental arrears. Been to court. Got possession order. No vacant possession so applied for bailiffs. Bailiffs due 21st May and appointment confirmed. Well now the tenants have finally discovered where the court is (they didn't bother turning up on 2 previous dates) and have applied to suspend the eviction warrant. So far I have been doing all the paperwork, court attendance etc. I'm not legal so have been using Solicitor Google up until now (and reading lots of helpful posts on this forum - thank you if I have used the info in one of your posts!!).

Well they have clearly now taken advice to put in this application but I haven't a clue what to expect. Can the judge overturn the eviction? Can he suspend it? How long for? Can they do this again? This whole process has been a real strain on me, my family, my finances and I don't know how much more I can deal with. Should I or can I engage a solicitor at this late stage? Is it worth doing now or should I just carry on myself? Does anyone have any experience of this who can advise me please? I am tiring of the whole tenant-sided legal process and would love a glimmer of hope that this is nearly over.

Thanks in advance.
Pelepeg
