I pay my rent weekly and always leave the money on the bed as per the landlords instructions. I have a cat and therefore the room has always been left ajar. A couple of weeks ago my landlord knocked to say that there had been no rent there the previous week. I am sure as I can be that I had left the rent there. I would have panicked at such a loss of money. My memory is not definitive however. My discussion with the landlord lasted 2 minutes as he clearly felt that I was trying to avoid payment. In 5 months my rent was always on time. I feel aggrieved that the payment method has been shown to be faulty. Shame I didn't realise before. There is no written contract in place and I want to leave next week. He has 2 weeks of my deposit. How much notice should I be giving?
