Hi. I am looking at purchasing a freehold but am unsure of the risks - it is 25 flats and I do not think there is currently a working fire alarm in the building which I am sure there should be.
If I purchased the freehold would there be any risk to myself of being responsible if someone died through a fire. I am told that this is the leaseholder (other flat owners) but surely as there is no way they could implement a system throughout all of the flats the burden then falls to the freeholder to make sure this is safe??? I have been informed there is no way a freeholder can be held to account but I find this difficult to believe.
Any advice? Thanks
