Been approached by a prospective tenant who wants to rent for an indefinite period. I have agreed but I have asked the tenant to pay an extra sum to cover the re-advertising costs associated with a short let. The tenant also wants to pay weekly which I have agreed to. I estimate that re-advertising is going to cost around 120 gbp. My question is that can I legally charge this to the tenant? If I can, how do incorporate the charge in to the rent? He will pay me weekly and is indefinite about his move out date so I cannot spread the cost as it will be inaccurate. Can I make his first week rent higher or something along those lines?
