I'm about to sign on an AST, and am waiting to hear back from the landlord about the possibility of making certain adaptations before I commit myself.
I've requested permission to change the prepayment meter to a credit one (this is disallowed under the terms of the tenancy agreement), and permission for a grab bar by the bath, both to be installed at my own expense, and returned to normal when I leave.
The grab bar is not going to make or break the deal (you can get ones with suckers that leave no holes), but the meter might, as I am sometimes unable to leave the house to charge a prepayment meter up, and living in an unheated property in winter is not only pretty grim for me, but is also bad for the fabric of the property.
I would be interested in some advice from landlords on why they would disallow this adjustment, and how best to put it forwards to my landlord. As a LHA tenant under 35, my position is inherently insecure as it is, and tenancies are obviously hard to find.
