This morning I received an email ostensibly from noreply.efees@landregistry.gsi.gov.uk, as I always do, announcing that they would debit my bank account with their fees by a certain date.
However, it seemed odd that the sum they quoted was over £200 when in fact I had only downloaded a couple of title deeds, which as you know are only £3 each.
Even more sinister, the email had a .zip file attached, which in turn contained an .exe file.
Now it turns out that that email was NOT from Land Registry, and that hundreds if not thousands of similar emails have been sent out. One can only wonder at the scale of the problem...
If you have received such an email do NOT click on the attachment.
I just wonder who is the originator of the malicious email and how they got hold of so many people's email addresses?
