We have let our flat for 3+ years to one tenant managed by an Agent.
During this time, the tenant had 'cleanliness' issues which resulted in our flat having to be completely re-decorated after she left.
In addition, she claimed there was a problem with damp (turned out to be condensation) which she let get so bad, we had to re-plaster 2 rooms! During this time, the management agent mentioned a problem with some mould and showed me a picture taken from a mobile of one corner of a room with mould spots. When we viewed the flat after she left, the bathroom was COVERED in mould!
We also replaced kitchen lino due to burn marks, cupboard doors were ripped off, door handles broken (I could go on). She also had pets (despite us saying no pets in the tenancy), smoked (despite us saying no smokers) and lied about who was living there to get benefits.
Anyway, after spending £300+ the management company today paid £15 into our account out of her deposit.
They claim that the lino would have had no value as it was over 5 years old (despite it previously being in perfect condition), the wallpaper in the bedroom would have had to be replaced due to a history of mould (this happened because they didn't manage the issue and tell us how bad things had got)...they basically had an excuse for everything!
Where do we stand with this? Can we appeal what the DPS decide?
