Hi,
I'm in the process of renting a property and I have a question that I hope you'll be able to help me with!
I am moving in with my partner in early October. However, I am going to be the only person signing the agreement. We both understand the risks that we would both be taking should the worst happen, but are willing to take them. Before anyone asks why it is because he is American and is only moving here full time next month to study. Therefore, he won't have any references here and I assume that a guarantor would be more complicated to get finalised. Furthermore, I need to move in next month and therefore he simply won't be here to sign.
I explained this in full to all of the agents who showed me round and, unsurprisingly, they said that it would be fine. They all said that I could put him on the agreement as a named person and take full responsibility for the rent myself. I know that this isn't ideal, but it's the best that I could do. The propert management company, one of the bigest in the country, were sent mine and his details by the agent and have since started the referencing procedure, so it's all going well.
The thing that makes me worry about this agreement is the agent. He called me today and said that everything was fine and I didn't need to put him on. However, he shouldn't 'be on any bills, receive any post etc' at the address. Can anyone shed some light on this? Will there be a problem down the road? I have emails from the agent saying that this is fine and saying that he has told the company of these arrangements, which covers my back. We are also happy to add his name to the agreement down the road too. Any advice would be very helpful, thank you!
