I am in the process of purchasing a new house but conveyancing has taken longer than expected.
The owner's solicitor is now saying that we will not complete before the 2nd week of January.
I sold my old house in November & have been staying at a friend's vacant flat during December. But, I need to move out on the 1st of Jan as he has new tenants moving in on the 2nd.
It is going to be a complete nightmare finding somewhere else & moving all of my things there temporarily, even more so given Jan/Feb is my busiest period at work.
The property I am purchasing is vacant as the owner has moved back overseas. I am thinking about asking the owner if I can 'rent' it until completion - with the monies paid for rent being returned on completion.
Bearing in mind the owner is not a UK citizen, is this a feasible option & easy to do? Is it just a case of the owner's solicitor writing up a standard rental contract? Or is there a better option?
