My daughter and her boyfriend went to an estate agent in Birmingham and went through the correct proceedure to rent a room in a shared house. Passed credit and work checks, paid deposit, got the keys today to find out the last tenant's stuff is still in the room - and - none of the heating is working. A tenant in another room says oh yes, the heating has never worked in that room - the contract says the heating is included in the bills. What on earth does she do????? it is a room in a shared big house and it is freezing and impossible to heat with electric heaters as has big high ceilings. It is a well established estate agency - and they know the last tenant has left his stuff but unable to do anything for my daughter until Monday. Her tenancy commenced today.
