Retrospective claim for overcharged insurance

Hi all,

I have a slightly tricky situation, so hope someone can advise. One of my flats is in a block which was managed by a terrible Managing Agent (MA). I am a director of the Residents' Association. We got together 2.5 years ago, sacked the MA and appointed a new one. The new MA are generally very good. However, since they took over the contract we have been asking them to seek alternative insurance quotes, as ours was very high. They stated several times that due to the claims history they were unable to beat the incumbent's quotes. Again this year they budgetted for the same price with a small increase and stated that it was the best they could find. I suspected they were fibbing, so asked another broker to find an alternative. They easily found a quote for £6k versus the £12K currently. The MA then suddenly came back with an even better quote of £5.5k from their brokers. I'm certain that there has been no underhandedness. However, I am certain that they just ignored our requests in previous years to get alternative quotes. I want to claim against them for the two years that they accepted inflated quotes. Is it possible to quantify what we should have been paying? If so, how would I go about proving it? (From recollection, all our requests for alternative quotes were verbal, so there may be no paper-trail.)

All advice gratefully received.
