Hi there - I wonder if anyone can help me? We have a downstairs side room to our house with its own toilet/shower room. Our plan is to put a kitchen area in it, lock the door which has access to the rest of the house and rent it out to a monday to friday lodger. (Access to it would be acheived by the side gate and the back door - therefore the lodger would never have to come into my house.
My question is as it is self contained would the rent I get therefore not qualify under the government's rent a room scheme - or is there a way around this?
Also have any landlords out there got experience of monday - friday lodgers. We are based in Surrey and 30mins train journey from London - I have this idea that it will be very easy to come across a quiet, professional - or am I being a little naive??
I would welcome any comments!
