Hi all,
My wife and have been tenants in a small one bedroom flat in London since January 2010. Our tenancy is due to end in August this year.
Before moving in, we paid a 1.5 month's deposit, a month's rent, £200+VAT lettings agents charge and £116.33 for an Inventory fee. We met the inventory clerk at the property and she did the check in, and all was fine.
Last year, the landlord sold the property and the new landlord brought in a new letting agency.
When I emailed the new lettings agency to let them know we intended to move out in August, they responded saying that we had to pay the check out fee, as the landlord had paid the check in fee.
I advised them that we had paid a £116.33 inventory fee to the old agents when we moved into the property and that, therefore, we should not be liable for the check out fee.
What can the new letting agents do to force us to pay this fee for check out, even though we definitely paid a fee on moving into the property.
Thanks, any help appreciated.
Gareth
