Hello
Not been here for a while, but now going to be buying a Freehold Maisonette on the 1st and 2nd floor of a 3 story edwardian house. The ground floor is owned buy a Leaseholder who has a nice long lease. The Freehold is for the WHOLE BUILDING.
My solicitor seems to think that the Freehold property I'm planning to buy should have its own lease. The mortgage lender doesn't know why a Freehold property would require a lease. They just wouldn't loan on a share of freehold - which apparently this isn't, so that's OK. Who is right!?
The vendors papers have only just arrived with my solicitr today, but he called in a panic becuase the property had no lease with its Freehold.
Can anyone please shed some light. My confidence in my solicitor is waining, and I'm hoping to move by Christmas!
