Hi all

In need of some help. I purchased a house from the council in 2005. In front of the house is a lenth of land 4.5m wide and 13m out to the road. When we purchased the house we at same time put in to construct a driveway on this land. This was accepted by the local council and we payed them to drop the curb ect. And leaving us beleving we purchased the land when buying the house. Then last year our neighbour constructed a hard stand and started to use our drive way to gain access to his hard stand. We had visit from the council, who told us he had put the hard stand in with out permission and where going to put a row of bollards down the side of our drive to stop him using it, and said they felt he shouldnt be using our drive when we had payed for it. Bollard went in, and neighbour then sold the house. New neibour moved in and put in for drive and was refused due to him being in front of a field. Then we was contacted by the council with them saying they had no record of us being given permision to have a drive way and that we didnt own the land. And that they owned the land. I got a copy of the registery and found out they registered it in 2007 2 year after my drive had gone down. Luckly wife keeps everything and we sent them a copy of the letters from council allowing us to have the droped kerb and the receipt showing us paying them to do the work. (all letters from them, there solicitor and highway etc all state construction of droped kerb to my property). Then they got back to us saying ok, but we still didnt own the land and would have to purchase it from them or they could remove us from the land. I then got a phone call every day from the council land seller so to bide some time while i got all me paper work together i payed a £80 fee to have it valued and was told i could buy it for £5000 including all the fees, planning permision, change of look of the land fee etc.
Now would i stand a chance if i went to the land registry and claimed the land as beleving i owned it in the first place.

Thanks in advance

Sorry its a bit long winded but needed to paint a rough picture of situation.

Sean
